Film & Animation
The goal of this project was to create a 2-minute video displaying a narrative with clear intentions, messaging and music choice. In addition, it was to further verse ourselves in Adobe Premiere and Adobe Audition. The main message behind this short animation is the oppression of women in 2020, mainly in third world countries.
The purpose of this project is to inform, stimulate and educate the audience about four women who are fighting for women’s rights in different countries. This topic is a viable research project because I don’t think the world appreciates the history of their ancestors. Younger generations have forgotten. I want to provide a visually interesting story that is abstract, but educational.
My initial sketches focus on abstract scenes supported with informational copy that informs the audience about the message behind the film. I would use feminine colors in the abstract shapes I used as transition pieces. In addition, I would use a red line to symbolize a lifeline. As I worked on my concept, I came to the conclusion that I needed to simplify the elements inside this video so they wouldn’t take away from the concept.
I used Adobe Illustrator to illustrate four inspirational women: Fawzia Koofi, Melene Rossouw, Beatrice Savadye, and Malala Yousafzai. These women were chosen because of their involvement in gaining woman’s rights in third world countries. Because I was going to link this Adobe illustrator file to Adobe Premiere, I layered shapes on top of each other to create the final illustration of these women. The reason behind this layering was so I could slowly build them in the video to add visual interest.
At the beginning of this project, I had no idea what I wanted to do. There were various avenues I could have gone down, but I chose this topic because of its relevance to society today. I think it is important to be conscious of women continuing to being oppressed especially in third world countries. This inequality among the genders is a constant war that should be vanquished. Therefore, I wanted to inform and educate viewers of this violation of women’s rights by conveying four powerful women taking a stand in their own way to combat this inequality. Overall, this topic was interesting to learn about and dig further into. I think in the near future, I will expand on this topic into more detail.
