Solo Project
The goal of this project was to take a headline found in the news and turn it into a poster inspired by a chosen designer. The designer I chose was Wolfgang Weingart because of his Postmodern Swiss Punk style and his ability to break the rules by knowing them first. For this project, I created a series of posters based off the invisible dangers that exist in the world.
Before, I could start, I did some research on who Wolfgang Weingart was and what he’s done over the years. I admired his ability to play with typography and grid systems because of his knowledge and expertise in how to use them conventionally. Originally, he was a Swiss Style designer, until he started the New Wave Period, which brought Swiss Punk into fruition. I wanted to move Wolfgang Weingarts style into the next era by expanding on his style.
At the beginning of this project, I struggled with achieving this deconstruction of typography by knowing the rules first. His play with typography overstepped Swiss design and led into Postmodern Swiss Punk design. Since I didn’t know his process, it was challenging to take reference and inspiration from some of his work. Overall, I enjoyed this project, it allowed me to expand on my knowledge of design rules by breaking them in my designs.
