Overview

The goal of this project was to create a proposal for an exhibition about Black Holes that could be installed at the Nature and Science Museum. This exhibition would be tailored to children under the age of 12. The imagery would be vinyl on the walls with informational pieces to go with the illustrations.

Process and Development | Sketches

To begin this process, I researched exhibition design and their necessary components. I also had to consider my target audience when making design decisions for content and visuals. I created an exhibition that could be used as an educational tool for children to learn more about space, mainly black holes.Instead of being literal with the imagery, I utilized Adobe Illustrator to make vector illustrations to create an enjoyable experience for both children and adults.

Character Development

The simplicity of the infographic utilizes the negative space and allows the viewer to be guided through the information. In addition, I created a space guide, Juno, who would help children engage and relate to with the information being provided.

Reflection

Overall, this project helped me understand the importance of exhibitions and how design can be used in educational settings. Being able to make something memorable was a challenge especially when I wanted to put in a copious amount of information. In the end, I had to make myself take a step back and rethink about who my target audience was, hence the minimalistic approach to informational pieces.
